Exosomes derived from berberine-treated bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells ameliorate inflammatory arthritis in rats with collagen-induced rheumatoid arthritis

To evaluate the effect of exosomes secreted by berberine-treated bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) on synovial inflammation in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) model. Exosomes were isolated from BMSCs (Ber-BMSC-EXs) and untreated (BMSC-EXs). CIA rats developed treated with Ber-BMSC-EXs or BMSC-EXs. Clinical index was measured, activation fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs) evaluated, response frequency T helper 17 (Th17) regulatory (Treg) as well cytokine levels fluid determined. (with a superior than BMSC-EXs) significantly alleviated RA clinical score paw inflammation, balanced Th17 Treg cells’ responses population, modulated pro-inflammatory anti-inflammatory cytokines joint fluid, inhibited FLS rats. greater could ameliorate symptoms rats, showing that berberine can reinforce anti-arthritic effects
